{"id":2644,"date":"2015-02-02T20:13:31","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T04:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/intromeditation.com\/Wordpress\/?p=2644"},"modified":"2020-11-23T09:06:18","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T17:06:18","slug":"why-not-join-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intromeditation.com\/Wordpress\/why-not-join-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Not Join Us?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2009 I spent a couple weeks at the Wat Pahnnanna Chat monastery, in the austere and celibate Thai Forest Tradition.\u00a0 Most of the long-term monks seemed distant, unavailable for conversation, and even emotionally cold.\u00a0 I had friendly chats with one guy, though, an old Sri Lankan monk, who had kind eyes and always seemed warm and open.<\/p>\n<p>One morning he and I had the following exchange:<\/p>\n<p>[monk]: &#8220;You&#8217;d make a good monk.\u00a0 Why don&#8217;t you join us here?&#8221;<br \/>\n[me]: &#8221; &#8230;.
